Saudi gets 4 years, deportation for insulting Kuwait ruler

KUWAIT CITY, March 11: The Court of Appeals Thursday canceled the lower court verdict and sentenced a Saudi, identified only as Mohamed J., to four years imprisonment to be followed by deportation in case No. 114/2006.
The court found Mohammed and his friend Mansour guilty of insulting HH the Amir. Mohammed was also convicted of disturbing the authorities.
On May 27, 2009, Mansour was sentenced by the Criminal Court to 20 months imprisonment and the Court of Appeals upheld this verdict.
Mansour, is a student at the Public Authority for the Applied Education and Training (PAAET), and had insulted the Amir while talking on the phone.
However, in his defense plea Mansour had denied the charge. He said he was talking to Mohammed about a person called ‘Sabah’ but certainly not HH the Amir. The session was presided by Judge Ibrahim Al-Obaid.

The spokesman of the Ministry of Interior Colonel Mohammad Al-Sabr in a statement to the press has denied sending SMS or posting a message on the website that Mohammed Al-Juwaihel who contested the last parliamentary elections had been shot dead, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
Al-Sabr added Al-Juwaihel is alive. He also said the authorities are tracking the source of the rumor.
In reaction to what has been rumored, Al-Juwaihel added the rumor may one day become a reality.
