KUWAIT CITY, March 11: The Minister of Interior Sheikh Jaber Al-Khalid Al-Sabah says the government will withdraw Kuwaiti citizenship from dual citizenship holders and others who obtained citizenship illegally through influence, reports Al-Rai daily.

“The government will annul the Kuwaiti citizenship among holders of USA passports, as nationality is to sacrifice blood and not a gift”, Sheikh Khalid added.
He noted the process will be closely monitored to avoid mistreatment and unfair judgment, and it will be implemented without exceptions. He stressed the USA offers citizenship to anybody born there, and holders of dual citizenship will be allowed to decide after reaching 18 years old.
He added the majority of Kuwaitis holding American passports believe in Kuwaiti citizenship, considering they received the American passport beyond their control. Ambassadors, diplomatic attachÈs, and students are included in this category. Therefore, holders of dual citizenship should come forward and nullify the other nationality.

Sheikh Khalid indicated every Kuwaiti cleaving to another nationality is included in the process, regardless it is Arab, Asian or other foreign nationalities. “This is the reason I took the oath and it’s my responsibility as the Minister of Interior to ensure those mentioned in the category will lose their Kuwaiti citizenship, if they decline to follow procedures”, he added.
He went on to say the files in question will be reviewed, and another committee will verify information submitted by applicants to obtain the citizenship, and those who really deserve will earn it, without any doubts.
He noted individuals who fought to liberate Kuwait and for other Arab causes must definitely be rewarded, for the reason that a person can pay nothing more to earn citizenship than with his blood.
