The victorious BSK team in a jubilant mood.
BSK triumph on the Soccer field
Following on from the many successes of the Volleyball and Basketball teams of The British School of Kuwait, it was time for the football teams to take their bow. After an excellent season of consistent results, the Under 19 BSK Boys team lifted the coveted Kuwait International Schools trophy after a thrilling win over local Salwa rivals Kuwait English School.
In a fiercely contested game where skill and determination were on show in equal measure, the BSK boys fell behind after only a minute of the game when KES took advantage of some sleepy defending to pounce and take an early lead. BSK took time to settle but when they did they lead from the front, with captain Mohammed Abdelhak scoring his first goal of the season with a clinical finish to level the score as half time approached.
The teams stayed even but gradually BSK began to assert themselves on the opposition with the midfield pairing of Ali Al-Khazzam and Fawaz Al-Fahad controlling the game and Basel Abousedu and Jacob Abrahams operating as defensive rocks.
As the game neared the end, the ever dangerous Mohammed Al-Qallaf and Mohammed Housein combined down the right to slip in top scorer Abdulaziz Al-Ali who was felled as he was about to shoot. Abdulaziz picked himself up and confidently converted the penalty and BSK looked in command as the final whistle beckoned.
Credit however to the KES boys, who began to put the BSK goal under seige and with the last kick of the game a goalmouth scramble resulted in an equaliser to send the game into penalties. What a climax to a riveting game.
The tension continued to mount when BSKs Abdelhak and Al-Fahad had confidently dispatched their penalties along with the opposition. It was time for Abdullah Hamza in goal to be the hero, saving expertly to ensure the Abdulaziz Al-Ali had the last kick of the game, a powerfully taken penalty that lead to huge celebrations from the BSK boys and their fans a close but none the less well deserved victory and another sporting trophy in the burgeoning cabinet at BSK.
