Man strangles sister to death in family dispute Jihadists detention extended
KUWAIT CITY, March 9: A young Kuwaiti girl in her 20s was strangled to death by her brother in her house in Ferdous area on Tuesday, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
Sources say securitymen and paramedics rushed to the girl’s house as soon as the Operations Room received information about a strangling case and realized that the girl had already died.
By the time, however, the victim’s brother escaped in his vehicle. Sources say Farwaniya securitymen tracked him on his mobile phone and found out that he was in Salmiya area. Subsequently, police patrols were informed and the vehicle description of the accused was circulated around. Patrols reportedly noticed the suspect’s vehicle on a road, but did not chase him and waited until he entered a mosque. They then surrounded the mosque, arrested the suspect and referred him to authorities.
Meanwhile, the remains of the victim were referred to Forensics. The suspect, who is in his 20s and works for the Defense Ministry, told police that he strangled his sister due to family quarrels.
A case was registered and investigations are going on.
Shelaimi ruling March 30 : The Criminal Court on Monday set March 30, 2009 to rule on a State Security case filed against 2008 National Assembly candidate Khaled Al-Shelaimi in which he is charged with publishing false news about the internal status of Kuwait, which can harm the State security and weaken its position.
The Public Prosecution had earlier released Shelaimi on KD 500 bail due to his statement during an interview with Al-Watan Satellite Channel when he divulged confidential information regarding the Ministry of Defense (MoD).
Shelaimi later pointed out that the topic he discussed during the interview was published in daily papers and tackled at the National Assembly. “This means what I said was not secret,” he contended.
During the interview, Shelaimi criticized the performance of the ministry, alleging there are many military aircraft that are out of order. He added a lot of military men have resigned due to the maltreatment they face at the ministry, which he accused of mistreating bearded military men.
The session was presided over by Judge Adel Al-Huwaidi.
Meanwhile, the Public Prosecution on Sunday extended the detention of a Kuwaiti man, identified as S. Al-Hathal, and a Bedoun man, identified as S. Samel, until Tuesday to be summoned again for interrogation as they have been charged with fighting the US forces in Afghanistan in State Security case number 6/2009.
