Al Monayea, Shahab win 2nd KPSA Hala Feb Shoot fest Al Ansari, Al Hedba finish 2nd best

KUWAIT CITY, March  8: Waleed Ahmad Shahab and Fahad Yousef Al Monayea took the top honors  when,  in celebration of the Hala February Festival,   Wataniya Telecom sponsored one of the best shooting organizations in the country — Kuwait Practical Shooting Association (KPSA),   headed by Regional Director Lamis Ali Chahine  and affiliated with International Practical Shooting Competition (IPSC),—in a shooting tournament which drew some of the best shooters in the country.
This was the  2nd contest organized by KPSA under the title “Hala Feb Competition 2010” from March 4-6 at the Mayadeen Shooting Range in Subhan with the awarding ceremony held Sunday night in the same arena.
With over 50 top competitors joining    this 3-day event, which was  in two categories — Practical Shooting and Ready & Fire – the top 3 contenders received trophies  and medals while the 4th to 7th placers walked home with medals and all participants were honored with  certificates of participation.

Ready and Fire
In the Ready and Fire competition, all the competitors were  allowed the use of 10 bullets   with two shots to be fired from each of the distances —  5, 7, 10, 15 and 20 meters.
One of the premium gunslingers Waleed Ahmad Shahab displayed  a  perfect stance, grip,   accuracy on the targets and a lot of determination as    he collected 96 points to bag  the  Ready and Fire title.
On the champion’s trail was Saad Faraj Al Hedba who showed remarkable skills to finish off the pace    by only a single point 95 to claim 2nd place.
There was a tie for third place as Ali Abdullah Al Kandari had   the same number of points —  94 – as  Meshari Rafid Al Eneizi but the competition’s  rule, whoever gets the highest number of shots in 10,   was used to decide the t5hird place.   And since Al Kandari had managed to place  6 shots in 10 while Al Eneizi had got only 5 hits Al Kandar took third  place 3rd  while the fourth place 4th place went to Al Eneizi.
There were a number of awards for some of the other  gunslingers who competed right until the end for a place among the top finishers. Among these was    Omar Ibraheem Al Ansari who managed to take  hold of  5th place with 93 points although he had finished level  with Jaafar Mohammed Al Maqseed. But again the competition’s rules came into play  as  Al Ansari had managed to place  5 shots in 10 while Al Maqseed had 4 that put him in  6th place.
On the other hand, Ali Abdulaziz Hussain followed them closely,   only two points behind with 92 points for 7th place while Sheikh Mubarak Ali Al Sabah — who has been regularly   competing in various tournament – displayed  his immense skills to total 91 points to comfortably sit in 8th place.
Meanwhile, Tahani Khaled Al Hamli and Loren Peterson were also among the top 10  with 87 and 86 points  respectively to clinch the   9th and 10th places .
Peterson had finished with  the same number of points as  Sumaiyah Al Shatti but here the tie was more difficult to break as both had collected 4 hits in 10 but Peterson acquired his 4 shots in 9 while Al Shatti had 1 hit less in the same number of shots.   With them with on 86 points also had been  Saad Laffe Al Mutairi but he failed to figure in the top 10 as  he had placed only  3 shots in 10.

Practical Shooting
Course of Fire
Range Officer Elmer Pelorin   guided the gunslingers and at the start of the event took a lot of interest to  explain  the scenario for the shoot.   The targets were based on  10 hard cover targets with  no-shoot targets placed among them  to deceive the competitors.  At the start of the event Condition 2 was  applied - - magazine inserted but with no chamber load and  20 bullets or more (Comstock) allowed to be used with double tap being applied in which the highest 2 shots were to be  considered.
The shooters starting position involved them being seated with their hands on top of the table and upon an audible signal they were required to pick up the gun and run towards the initial stage with trigger finger out because if the finger was on the trigger a disqualification was to be called. A “charge line” had been   provided to limit the stance with stepping on the line   acceptable but  stepping beyond the line was to  considered a procedural error.
Three hard covered targets awaited  the gunslingers initially and they had to pick up the hostage (a baby doll in a basket), place  the hostage on the floor behind a barricade (if the doll was dropped  during the run a procedural error was to  be called) and then engage  two targets with one hand on both the left and right targets .
This was to be followed closely with the gunslingers going into the  prone position to engage 3 three targets   before collecting another hostage (a doll) which was required to be   rested  on the floor.  After this the shooters were required to  engage the last 2 targets from  a kneeling position.
Earlier  Gen. Ahmed Al Saleem officially opened  the competition and encouraged all  the contenders to have fun.  He also advice them to follow the rules. Saleem emphasized  that “following the rules will  help  you   in every  competition, but when you don’t follow these rules you won’t get  anywhere”.
In the competition proper, Fahad Yousef Al Monayea proved that he is the best in the class when he displayed some really  fast pace and precision in  completing the course which resulted in him  achieving a  1.905 point average to walk home with the crown in Practical Shooting.
Meanwhile, one of the most recognized  gunslingers in the arena who has claimed numerous awards  in various competitions,   Omar Ibraheem Al Ansari,  showed some real class with a lot of speed and accuracy once again to claim 2nd place with a 1.7615 point average.  He had earlier finished 5th in the Ready and Fire event. It seems that no matter what the challenge Al Ansari is determined to take it on and also excel in it.
On the other hand, passion for the sport  and consistent involvement in different tournaments seemed to have  honed  the skills of Nawaf Fahad Al Tubaikh as he earned the 3rd place with a 1.4990 point average.
Al Tubaikh owes this good position to his determination to do better with each tournament  and this attitude is paying him dividends.
Ali Abdulaziz Husain proved  that he is not new to the game when he collected a  1.3086 point average while Jaafar Mohammed Al Maqseed joined the “Tough 5” with a 1.2251 point average.
Sumaiyah Abdullah Al Shatti on the other hand took  6th place with a 0.7212 point average while on his trail was Ali Abdullah Al Kandari with a point average  of 0.7121, Hussain Fouad Dashti acquired a 0.6045 point average and  Abdulaziz Salah Al Juhail finished with a  0.3540 point average.
