MoH plans penalties for doctors working outside without consent Private hospitals face law for not sticking to rules

KUWAIT CITY, March 6, (Agencies): The Ministry of Health (MoH) is finalizing a ministerial directive that calls for imposing penalties on doctors who work for the ministry, but conduct surgeries and examine patients in private hospitals during their official working hours in the ministry without the permission of their bosses or the hospitals they work for, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
The ministry took the decision after the Work Inspection Committee noticed the absence of some specialist doctors in hospitals and health centers. The committee made a list of all such doctors and later found that they all worked in private hospitals in part time positions, said a reliable source.
The ministry will also issue a decision imposing strict penalties on private hospitals for not adhering to regulations set by the Medical Licenses Administration of the ministry, added the source.
As per regulations, doctors have to take permission from the ministry to go to private hospitals for performing surgeries or diagnosis.
In another development, central registration for pharmaceuticals and medical supplies is a key division of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Health Ministers’ Executive Office, a senior Kuwaiti health official said Saturday.
The division implements the resolutions of GCC ministers of health, which are bearing on pharmaceuticals, with a view to ensuring available safe and effective medicine, Undersecretary of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health Yussif al-Nesf said in news remarks.
The Kuwaiti official made the remarks on the occasion of the convening Gulf central committee for medicine registration.
The committee seeks to unify medicine registration systems and procedures, and even medicine quotation, and to monitor pharmaceutical quality, safety and side effects in the GCC member states, he added.
The committee, which kick-started here earlier in the day and will last for four days, is being held under the auspices of Kuwaiti Minister of Health Hilal Al-Sayer.
