Iran repeating same mistakes ‘Don’t forget the past’
AFTER the region breathed a sigh of relief following the harsh eight-year war between the two neighboring Muslim countries (Iran and Iraq) which destroyed the human and financial resources of both the countries and after we welcomed the cessation of hostilities in August 1988, the ‘Mad Man of Iraq’ spread fire again in the area by invading and occupying Kuwait in 1990 until his fall in 2003.
Until this moment Iraq is a witnesses to bloodshed due to the interference of some parties in that country’s internal affairs and the stubbornness of Iran in dealing with the international community regarding its nuclear dossier. Surprisingly Tehran has been threatening to burn the foreign military bases in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries in the name of self defense.
Iran must recollect if it has forgotten or pretends to forget that the first missiles which hit Iraq during the liberation of Kuwait were fired from US warships from the Red Sea. It must also not forget that the US has many sea fleets and it does not need to make use of Gulf states as a launch pad.
I don’t understand why Iran is committing the same mistake like the former Shah who was nicknamed ‘Policeman of the Gulf.’ Why does Iran promote the mentality of controlling the smaller nations? These nations are Iran’s neighbors and Tehran must learn to live in peace with them.
Tehran must also use its financial resources for the development of the nation and the improvement of the standard of living of its citizens, invest in tourism projects and make a tourist spot in the area because it boasts of all splendor and natural beauty. Why should Iran insist on the use of force instead of dialogue and the continued interference in the affairs of others, in the hope to restoring the dream of the Persian Empire which plays on its mind?
As long as Iran does not want others to interfere in its affairs or being threatened it should stop interfering in Iraqi affairs and other countries of the Region.
From time to time we hear Iranian officials issuing threats to ‘destroy and burn’. This language is odd... language of the past. The example of Saddam Hussein should be a lesson for everyone. He was the ‘most preferred’ in the West, where is he now? They hung him in front all the world, and we also know what happened to the Shah of Iran.
You should read history properly, the modern history and not the old history. You must sympathize with your people. Let them live in peace. Islam is the religion of forgiveness, life and development, even the Prophet (PBUH) did not allow harm to be caused to the blood, funds and dignity of a Muslim.
This is an honest appeal to re-consider and rethink when you approve the killing of the innocent Muslims whether yours or others in the name of legal or religious excuses.
