Revellers throw caution to wind as they celebrate Kuwait Independence by spraying foam on passersby
Foam spray injures 200 Despite tight security one dead, 54 hurt in mishaps

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 27: National and Liberation Day celebrations in Kuwait, have sadly led to one death and 54 injuries, the Ministry of Health said on Friday.
Some 11 more extreme cases of those injured were carried to hospital, while the remaining cases were tended to on the scene, Health Undersecretary Khaled Al-Sahlawy told KUNA in a statement.
These extreme cases involve injuries brought about as a result of brawls, road accidents and fainting which occurred in a number of locations in Kuwait, including the Gulf Road, chalet areas, Wafra, Sabhan and Failaka Island.
The ministry had deployed 25 ambulances on 24-hour standby to tend to these incidents promptly, along with two main clinics on the Gulf Road, the most occupied area at these times, he added.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior Affairs installed cameras at various places across the country and tightened security at all entry and exit points to prevent untoward incidents during the National and Liberation day holidays. It also launched an intensive campaign against young drivers and arrested 40 youths for possessing sharp objects which were to be allegedly used to disturb celebrations as thousands of people gathered on the Gulf Street and in Sabhan, Kabad, Wafra and Al-Juleya desert areas on Thursday and Friday.
A large number of residence law violators and others wanted by law were also arrested during the holidays, say sources, adding those found doing immoral or unethical activities on the streets were referred to authorities.
The number of violations reported this year was much less compared to the previous years due to the extensive security deployment across all the six governorates, note sources.
In another development, the Medical Emergency Department received 200 distress calls on Thursday and Friday. Most of them were related to eye injuries caused due to the spraying of foam during National and Liberation day celebrations, besides  injuries caused in road accidents and fights.
Kuwait Fire Services Directorate (KFSD) participated in six fire-fighting operations and seven rescue operations during the National and Liberation day holidays.
Sources say two cars went up in flames in two separate incidents on the Sixth Ring Road and Fifth Ring Road and firefighters from Al-Ardiya and Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh centers put out the fires.
Firefighters of Al-Ahmadi center reportedly doused a fire that broke out in some wooden items dumped next to the Fahaheel Express Road. They also put out a fire which broke out in a camp near Wafra Road.
Also, three major fire incidents were reported in three different buildings in Sharq area during the holidays.
Moreover, firefighters from Al-Sulaibikhat and Mangaf fire centers rescued people stuck up in elevators in Al-Firdous, Al-Andalus and Al-Eqaila areas. Al-Qurain firefighters, meanwhile, rescued a child whose leg was stuck inside a toilet.
Firefighters also helped in salvaging a boat which was stuck near Failaka Island.
