‘Jail for minister if found guilty’

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 16: The Minister of Interior Sheikh Jaber Al-Khalid faces dismissal from his post, two years imprisonment and a fine, if found culpable of the four crimes he is alleged to have committed, reports Al-Rai daily.
This should be considered an unprecedented stride in any Arab or Islamic country, if the minister is convicted, the daily added.
In the meantime, the head of investigations at the Public Prosecution has compiled a punitive complaint against the Minister Al-Khalid, with details of the accusation and its justifications submitted to the Attorney General, Consultant Hamed Al-Othman, who requested the minister must be put on trial at the Ministers Court.
The charges include the waste of public funds, and obstruction to legal procedures, abuse of power, discrimination, and oppressing members of the Public Prosecution. He added the accusations clearly demonstrate the minister has violated the international civil and social rights agreement, signed with the United Nations.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated development, the Ministry of Interior will not submit any file on naturalization to the Cabinet for approval, Al-Wasat daily quoted reliable sources as saying.
After the Civil Rights Committee issues its decision, Minister of Interior Sheikh Jaber Al-Khaled will nominate candidates for naturalization this year and will submit the list to the National Assembly, say sources, adding candidates will be nominated on the basis of the Themer Committee report.
