SK Engineering & Construction Company B take lead Torres father and son bag Open Doubles A title

KUWAIT CITY,  Feb 15: SK Engineering & Construction Company B 14th took the top spot in their category while the Torres father and son team bagged the Open Doubles A title in the Filipino Badminton Association in Ahmadi (FBAA) Conference 4th Toyo Tires Cup at the Fahaheel Sports Center in Fahaheel,  Friday.                                         
FBAA organizers ,  headed by Ronald Margate , had earlier come out with an Open Doubles one-day event at the same venue while giving an opportunity to players to select their own partner and play the game in their own style with wits and lots of power.
SK Engineering & Const. B vs Worley Parsons B
Engineering and Construction B proved that they are one of the best contenders this season when they stepped up from 2nd place to take  the driver’s seat when they completed a 3-2 point victory over Worley Parsons B.
SK Engineering & Construction B scored when the tandem of Joshua Lagran and Tony Osea  tamed Ron Margate and Rio Ferrer 15-7, 15-10, the unbeaten pair of Deck Abesamis and Hans Ita-as brushed aside Eric Pablico and Franklin Montesclaros 15-9, 15-13 and Roman Malabanan and Belinda Valdez outlasted Mary Grace de Leon and Maricel Culangan after losing the first set and taking the next two for a  5-15, 15-13, 15-10 victory.
Worley Parsons B scored through Rio Ferrer and Arjay Lesaca when they overcame Janette Rimando and Annie Blouin in 2 extended  sets 16-14, 15-12 and then overcame the girl power of Dianne Lapason and Ness Aguilar in back to back sets 15-10, 15-10. 
Equipment Company A vs Worley Parsons A
Equipment Company A moved a step higher from 3rd to 2nd place when they scored a 3-2 point victory against Worley Parsons A driven by July Espiritu and Rommel Carlos who wasted no time to beat Nelson Pamfilo and Lala Tan 15-8, 15-9, while Marlad Aman and Majed Abdul Aziz hammered Arcee Piscasio (upgrade) and Allen Miole 15-7, 15-8 and Jenny Tolentino and Alethea Adana combined their power to brush aside Arcee Piscasio and Sanse Mendoza 16-14, 15-10.
On the other hand, Worley Parsons A acquired victories when Mike Florendo and Allan Bondoc  sweat a lot to outlast Sherwin Felizardo 10-15, 17-15, 15-11 and Alesandra Piscasio and Maggie Haddad edged Neil Ocampo and Girlie Cuya in one of the mouthwatering clashes 14-16, 17-15, 15-11.
Toyo Tires vs Equipment Company B
Toyo Tires plunged from top to 3rd best but they almost walked home defeated in all the 5 games against Equipment Company B before losing 1-4 points as they were saved by the  girl power of Melissa Albannay and Abi Sedik who thrashed Rochelle Baldomero and Mheann Golpo 15-7, 15-7.
Meanwhile, Equipment Company B gathered their points when Leeforp “Da Flash” Alonzo and Gerry Labagnoy tamed Jong Rimando and Gaurav Joshi 15-11, 15-13, Anthony Mendoza and Maricel Romano worked well on the courts and overcame Ryan Aguilar and Jeorgie Lorenzo 18-16, 15-7, Aldrin Turalde and Jean Blouin thumped Tony Elamparo and Benedict Garcia 17-15, 15-12 and Ligaya Caedo and Lito Lorempo outlasted Arlene San Mateo and Glorence Montesclaros in a seesaw battle 15-7, 11-15, 15-11.
Western Union vs SK Engineering & Const. A
Western Union Money Transfer almost completed a landslide victory against SK Engineering and Construction A when they scored a 4-1 point victory when Jon-Jon “Idol” Torres and Gerry Aguilar  thumped Norman Abad and Jeb Elamparo 15-12, 15-11, Anthony Valdez and Freddie Ocampo hammered Joel Jimenez Jr. and Dino Mendoza 15-13, 15-3, Claire Agsao and Jellica Espinosa worked hand in hand to edge Lhen Vidal and Anne Diaz 15-13, 16-18, 15-13 and Cecille Ibon and Angie Rodriguez tamed Luisa Diaz and Marinette “Tanette” Tuliao 15-10, 15-12.

Men’s and Ladies D
Ellen Elamparo and Shirley Iglesias bagged the crown in Men’s and Ladies D crown when they overcame Jonathan Vidal and Holden Ita-as in the championship finals in two sets 16-14, 15-12. Earlier in the semi finals Ellen Elamparo and Shirley Iglesias crushed Nette Mangahas 15-8, 15-3 while Jonathan Vidal and Holden Ita-as brushed aside Grace Mendoza and Annie Centeno 16-14, 15-12.
In the quarter finals Grace Mendoza and Annie Centeno showed their skills and outclassed Jonathan Vidal and Holden Ita-as 15-14, 14-15.
Grace Mendoza and Annie Centeno outlasted Ellen Elamparo and Shirley Iglesias 15-9, 11-15, 15-9, Jonathan Vidal and Holden Ita-as edged Nette Mangahas and Luke Labagnoy 15-11, 11-15, 15-12 and Nette Mangahas and Luke Labagnoy won by default.
Open Doubles
Rules
All players are allowed to choose their own partners provided that they meet the criteria set by the committee. Four categories are lined up, composed of Men’s A, Mixed A, B & C and are divided into 2 brackets. The top two pairs with the highest winning records n each bracket  advance to the semi-finals while cross over semi-finals were applied. Rank No. 1 in the bracket then play against the No. 2 and vice versa.
Men’s B were played on a single round with the top 4 pairs with the highest winning records  advancing to the semi-finals. Rank 1 competed against Rank 4 while Rank 2 battled  Rank 3.
Ladies A played a double round robin, with the top 2 pairs with the highest winning record  advancing to the finals.
Scoring Format
Elimination Round, 15-15; in case of tie at 14-all, first to reach 15 wins the set or game.
Semi-Finals, 21-21 game format; in case of tie at 20-all, first to reach 21 points wins the set or game. Winners of this round will advance to the finals
Finals, 21-21 game format; in case of tie at 20-all, first to reach 21 points wins the set or game. Winners will be declared  champions.
Default rules
A ten-minute default rule applies in all cases except for the player simultaneously playing within his stated game schedule in the FBAA tournament.
Men’s A
Joshua Lagran and Gerry Aguilar fought for every point to outlast Forp “Da Flash” Alonzo and Ryan Aguilar in a close 3-set match 21-16, 19-21, 21-20 while the son and father tandem of Jun-Jun “Idol” and Tim Torres wasted no effort to beat William Naoe and Rio Ferrer 21-13, 21-8. 
Jun-Jun “Idol” and Tim Torres kept the rhythm in the championship finals and outclassed Joshua Lagran and Gerry Aguilar 21-14, 18-21, 21-15.
Men’s B
Ryan Aguilar and Brehn Garcia edged Deck Abesamis and Hans Ita-as 19-21, 21-11, 21-10 while Anthony Valdez and Marlad Aman tamed Allen Miole and Vince Vidal 21-17, 21-7.
Anthony Valdez and Marlad Aman appeared to be in a hurry when they thumped Ryan Aguilar and Brehn Garcia in 2 easy  sets 21-14, 21-16.
Ladies A
In the championship finals , the outstanding girl power of Maricel Romano and Anne Diaz outclassed the good pair Melissa Albannay and Cathy Lesaca 21-14, 19-21, 21-19.
Mixed A
Ron Margate and Lala Tan tamed Forp Alonzo 21-12, 21-16 while Jong and Janette Rimando outlasted Norman Abad and Annie Blouin 15-21, 21-17, 21-12.
Mixed A champions Ron Margate and Lala Tan fought for every point to edge Jong and Janette Rimando 14-21, 21-15, 21-20.
Mixed B
Ryan and Ness Aguilar outclassed July Espiritu and Jennifer Tolentino 21-15, 16-21, 21-20 while Jean and Annie Blouin hammered Rommel Carlos and Rochelle Baldomero 21-13, 21-11.
Ryan and Ness Aguilar finished Mixed B champions when they outlasted Jean and Annie Blouin in a seesaw battle 21-20, 14-21, 21-10.
Mixed C
Aldrin Turalde and Abi Sedik brushed aside Hans Ita-as and Tanette Tuliao 21-15, 21-18 while Alvin Godoy and Arlene San Mateo overwhelmed Brehn Garcia and Nette Mangahas in back to back sets 21-16, 21-16.
Tandem of Aldrin Turalde and Abi Sedik took the Mixed C title when they blended well on the courts and outlasted Alvin Godoy and Arlene San Mateo in a seesaw battle 21-15, 19-21, 21-18.
