Governor fetes members of diplomatic corps Need to protect Kuwait-Iraq border: Sheikh Mohammad
KUWAIT CITY, Feb 12: Kuwait has again displayed her sterling quality of hospitality and warm embrace to people of diverse culture and identity. This was exactly the situation when the Capital Governor Sheikh Ali Al-Jaber organized the annual picnic for members of the diplomatic corps, with the aim of exchanging pleasantries and merrymaking among the diplomats at the Azayez farm in Abdali on Friday.
The Foreign Affairs Minister Sheikh Dr Mohammad Al-Sabah stated the gathering, which members of the parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee also attended, was not meant for conveying messages to anybody. However, he added the lawmakers have the right to know every procedure by the government in that aspect.
He affirmed the significance of the visit to the Northern region, so that everybody could see the reality of the interwoven Kuwaiti-Iraqi border and the need to protect it.
He noted it is necessary to prevent the situation whereby the border would be used as a haven for terrorist infiltration, which is detrimental to both sides. He indicated the lawmakers had first-hand brief by security officers concerning problems along the border, particularly with some families’ presence at the place.
He pointed out the two governments currently enjoy cordial relations; nonetheless they should find a common method to protect the border to avoid unnecessary misunderstanding. He assured Iraqi officials have also shown positive response to suggestions on the mode of protecting the border against infiltrators from both sides.
Touching on statements issued by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon about the need for Iraq to abide by international resolutions on border, missing people and Kuwaiti property, he stressed it is necessary to follow the international resolutions. “I thank organizer of the annual picnic for the outstanding gesture, by which diplomats from over 100 countries meet to exchange pleasantries in a serene atmosphere,” the minister added.
