‘Kuwait has no option than to strengthen ties with Iran’ Saqer warns against attacks on KCCI

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 12: MP Adnan Abdulsamad has rebuffed rumor that he considers the Shiites of Kuwait as being more loyal to Iran over Kuwait. He described such claims as an attempt to highlight sectarian difference, for what he termed ‘Iranian or Shiites phobia’, reports Al-Wasat daily.
Abdulsamad said all countries see the Iranian nuclear project as a role model, and noted the idea would be passed on to other countries, once it becomes successful.
He added Kuwait has automatically become involved with the Iranian issue, being it willingly or involuntarily. He stressed Iran is a strategic based country, so Kuwait has no option than to strengthen relations with it.
He went on to say the super powers would not accept the development of nuclear power in any third-world country, even if it is for peaceful purposes.

Meanwhile, a former lawmaker Mohammad Al-Saqer has warned against the consequence of organized attacks against the Kuwaiti Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), which he said is targeted at economic and development activities, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
Al-Saqer noted some personalities with hidden agenda to settle political and non-political scores are behind the campaign, and went on to say the Chamber of Commerce is the mother of all institutions in the country, because it took part in the establishment of the Constitution in 1962.
In his view, attacking the Chamber is like preventing Kuwaitis from enjoying their absolute rights, and regretted some notable personalities have hands in the saga, lamenting the sector has always been a strong institution behind the nation’s democracy. He reiterated it is wrong to turn back and bombard the Chamber of Commerce and Industry with undue attacks.

MP Musallam Al-Barrak has demanded the prosecution of Chairman of Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC) Hamal Al-Falah based on a letter, the latter sent to the State Minister for National Assembly Affairs and Minister of Communications Dr Mohammad Al-Baseeri on Jan 20, reports Al-Qabas daily.
Al-Barrak criticized the contents of the letter, which included vital information on the possible deterioration and crash of some airplanes.
He asked what Al-Falah was doing all this time and alleged that the chairman had an ulterior motive behind transforming the airways into a shareholding company. He said Al-Falah had long been denying his statements and that of others on the urgent need for maintenance of planes.
Al-Barrak wondered why the same person has come out to reveal that the planes are not in good order now when the National Assembly just decided to transform the company into a shareholding company. “Al-Falah was the manager of Engineering Department prior to his appointment as Board Chairman, so he should be held responsible as the official overseeing engineering and maintenance activities for a long period,” noted the lawmaker.

There are indications the government is perfecting strategies to be more media friendly to enable them enlighten the public on government activities by appointing a government spokesperson for this assignment, reports Awan daily.
The daily quoted a source as saying HH the Prime Minister is well disposed to the idea of reaching out to the public through the media, to ensure everybody is abreast with government’s activities. He said the current situation demands the appointment of a qualified mouthpiece for the government to liaise with the media and respond to their possible questions.
The Cabinet deliberated on amending the audio-visual law before it will be forwarded to the Information Ministry and the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs, to review the recommendations of Kuwait Journalists Association. There is the need to work on divergent views concerning penalties, but payment of fines seems to be stricter than jail term, yet everything is still at the preliminary stage, the source added.
