Interior minister could be under fire over citizenship conditions Al-Rejeeb’s policy criticized

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 12:  The Parliament will put Minister of Interior Sheikh Jaber Al-Khalid under fire in case the citizenship conditions are not applied to those included in a list of beneficiaries released on Dec 31, 2007, reports Al-Rai daily quoting sources. This came while the Faisal Committee is preparing to announce the results of investigations on the remarks mentioned in the Thamer Committee Report regarding the suspicions raised on files of 35 naturalized Kuwaitis. Under the leadership of General Director of the General Department of Citizenship and Passports Affairs Brigadier Sheikh Faisal Al-Nawaf, sources disclosed the Faisal Committee will recommend suspension of the processing of the citizenship applications of the children of naturalized Kuwaitis, who reached 18 years, until completion of the investigation.

On the other hand, MP Abdulrahman Al-Anjari has announced his plan to forward questions to Sheikh Jaber on the reasons behind the Saudi committee’s decision to stop working on the issue.  In another development, MP Mubarak Al-Waalan has criticized the aimless policy of Interior Ministry Undersecretary Lieutenant General Ahmed Al-Rajeeb, reports Al-Shahid daily. Accusing Al-Rajeeb of playing favorites, Al-Waalan claimed the undersecretary issued a decision granting more retirement benefits to high-ranking officials, prompting many of them to submit their resignation.  However, those who resigned earlier have expressed surprise over the three-year extension of the decision, the MP added
Al-Waalan said the undersecretary have been targeting a certain group of officers; thereby, encouraging discrimination based on sector among the police departments.  He asserted the decision was unfair to many officials who ended their career without taking advantage of their services.

Meanwhile, acting National Assembly Speaker Dulaihi Al-Hajeri received on Thursday Herve de Charrette, who is a member of the French Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee and also Chairman of the Franco-Arab Chamber of Commerce. The French official was accompanied by a delegation, and the two sides discussed bilateral relations, where de Cherrette reiterated his country’s keenness for boosting friendly relations with Kuwait. On parlaimentary matters, the French official praised the role played by the Kuwaiti National Assembly and its vitality in the region. He also said that the Franco-Arab Chamber of Commerce constantly worked to boost relations with Arab institutions, as well as Kuwait. On his part, Al-Hajeri underscored Kuwait’s efforts to boost Kuwaiti-French relations at different levels, noting the recent visit of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to France.
