Goan Cyborgs grab lead TISOK, Jazeera roll to victorious
KUWAIT CITY, Feb 10: After a forgettable 4th week outing, the spicy pin busters of the Goan Cyborgs returned to the Kuwait Sea Sport Club Bowling Center with fire in their eyes and walloped the totally out classed Abannte keglers. The scintillating victory enabled the Cyborgs to grab the 5th week pole position of the ACDC 2010 Winter League Bowling Tournament. Gaining a lot of ground and improving their positions after rolling past their respective opponents were TISOK, Jazeera Airways and the ultra hot Amateurs.
Awakened by their loss to underdog Nusantara last week, the all-Indian keglers of Goan Cyborgs gave the Abannte crew a hint of what is in store for them as they started the match with a lopsided 11-0 in game one. Totally not in the mood to show some mercy the Goan’s bannered by the dynamic duo of Nelson D’ Souza and Colin Costa once again clobbered their beleaguered nemesis 11-2. Adrian Noronha, Brian Fernandes and Fatima Sequeira then helped put the icing on the Cyborg’s 35-1 total point victory with a 10-1 winning margin in the final game of the match. Toto Abear and Mousa Abdullah dished out the best showing for the vanquished Abannte squad.
With their surprise 4th week defeat at the hands of the Al Jazeera aviators completely behind them, the tenpin strikers of TISOK masterfully eked out a 32-12 decision over Delta Corporation. In the nip and tuck opening game, Goerge Bouchebel, Mohammad Fateh and Sean Fernandes lifted TISOK to a close 8-6 win. The two evenly match quintet continued their rivalry in game two and TISOK was just a hairline better than Delta Corporation as indicated by their 7-6 victory. Ahead by 3 points at 15-12, TISOK braced themselves for a possible tit for tat affair in game three but unfortunately Delta Corporation folded at the stretched allowing TISOK with Jason Manalo, Anne Marie Aroma and Sarto Baptista to walk away with a 14-0 victory. Bowling for Delta in this match were Rod Dulay, Cris Carungay, Ramon Mesina, Agnes Noble and Arman Gutierrez.
Up against the slumping Frost Real Estate, Al Jazeera Airways took off without any delay and landed safely with 26-12 total points win. Looking for their second victory in as many weeks, the Jazeera five some of Daniel Mandoya, Marvin D’ Souza, Benyamin Hasan, Edsel Rodriguez and Eviani Reinasari had a good start as they blanked the real estate magnates 10-0. In game two, Bong Autida, Aldin Avila, Aga Cuadrazal, Rey Galvez and Mitch Avila put Frost Real Estate back in contention with an 8-5 victory but the Al Jazeera aviators who were simply in tip top shape clinched the match with an 8-5 count in game three. Meanwhile, the Amateurs proved that their two previous victories were no flukes when they collected another 25-12 win at the expense of D’ Strikers. Still the underdog despite their recent winning form, the Amateurs looked headed for defeat when Bobby Carambas, Demie Nardo, Edgar Pascua, Riz Roque and Liza Catapia gave D’ Strikers the upper hand after taking game one of the 3-game series match 10-3.
A slight change in the lineup worked well for the Amateurs who grabbed the lead 12-11 after a 9-1 game two victory. Led by Ansley Jeremiah, Bala, Anastesius Menezes, Mathew and Monali Jeremiah and Samantha Fernandes, the Amateurs nailed down their third straight win with a 10-1 rout of D’ Strikers in game three. Final tally of the match was 25-12 in favor of the sizzling Amateurs.
In the other two matches of the week, short handed Fre-Keglers came back from a game down to brush aside the undermanned Nusantara squad 22-12. At the onset of the match, Nusantara gave Fre-Keglers a big scare when the four some of Gofar Husin, Naning, Ayi Mulyana and Yulia Sudrajat posted a 7.5-2.5 upset.
In the next game and with both teams having four bowlers each, the more experienced Fre-Keglers headed by Rico Baluyot, Sonia Mathews, Rudy Pila and Shahab Khamaly easily subdued Nusantara in the next two games 7.5-4.5 and 9-0. Displaying a lot of determination, the Pin Kickers survived two consecutive setbacks at the hands of Kuwait Airways on their way to a 19-13 victory. After Bima Nitikusumo, Mohammad Rizky, Iman Pradana, Laras Pratiwi and Abel Nitikusumo handed Kuwait Airways 5-3 and 7-4 victories in games one and two, Kiko Andaya, Neng Cervantes, Jess Tolentino, Alfred Avila and Mina Andaya reversed the outcome of the match through a 9-1 win in game three.
