KUWAIT CITY, Feb 6: The concerned authorities have been given the green light to submit their recommendations regarding the 37 new pay scale requests from some government institutions, reports Al-Anba daily quoting sources.
Sources opined the recommendations may include approval of KD100 to KD 150 increment for Kuwaiti employees in government institutions, instead of approving new pay scales only for certain groups. Sources said this suggestion is fair and feasible but the role of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry should be taken into consideration to prevent inflation.
Sources disclosed over 200,000 Kuwaitis employed in the government sector will benefit from the proposed salary increase, purportedly followed by another for 70,000 non-Kuwaiti employees in government institutions like doctors.
Sources stated the estimated amount for the increment of Kuwaitis is KD 650 million, asserting this will stop any salary increase demand at least for the next five years, reduce threats to stage protest actions, and meet the demands of the Fatwa and Legislation Department in this regard. Sources added the increment, if approved, will take effect by the beginning of the new fiscal year.
