FILBACK-AMEC knock-out round kicks off Team tourney registration opens
KUWAIT CITY, Feb 3: The going became really tough in the knockout round of the ongoing Filipino Badminton Club in Kuwait (FILBACK)-AMEC Friday at the Handball Gym in Kazma Sports Complex, Adailiya with all the players fighting their hearts out as they tried to earn a berth in the next round of the event.
With the competition getting tougher all the time, the same arena will be the place all the roads will lead to as the championship finals have been scheduled for this Friday. With a lot of exciting matches expected, the turnout is expected to be large as all the players will be vying for trophies.
The knock-out quarter-final matches last Friday trimmed down the playing field with now only the finest players left in each of the 6 categories — Men’s O, Men’s A, Men’s B, Men’s C, Ladies B and Ladies C.
In some matches the original players failed to turn up and they were replaced by players who are being called “Jokers”.
Men’s O
In Men’s O, Chandra Mouli and Noor outclassed D.G. Supul and Ravi 21-10, 15-21, 21-16, Mathew Jacob and Olan Patriarca hammered Dutta and Nestor Matondo 21-19, 21-14, Pushkaraj Altekar and Amith Balakrishnan overpowered Shibi and Nestor Matondo 21-10, 21-14, Jabbar and Amith Balakrishnan outlasted Manimara “Doc Mani” Chozhan and Sumesh Daga in a seesaw battle 21-19, 18-21, 21-12, Chandra Mouli Chandra Mouli and Sumesh Daga hammered Dutta and Joker 21-12, 21-9, Doc Mani and Anil thrashed Dutta and Joker 21-10, 21-8, Dutta and Sumesh Daga hardly broke sweat to beat D.G. Supul and Joker in back to back sets 21-10, 21-10, Faheem Contractor and Ravi thumped Dutta and Anil 21-15, 21-14 and Shibi and Ravi fought for every point to edge Chandra Mouli and Joker 23-21, 9-21, 21-18.

In Men’s A, Francis Enriquez and Donald Briones blended well on the courts and wasted no time to overcome Vijay and Thajik Umeer 21-19, 21-15, Chan Basha Shaik brushed aside Richard Amoto and Donald Briones 21-11, 21-17, Francis Enriquez and Joker tamed Ramil Cadano and Donald Briones 21-15, 21-12, FILBACK Tournament Director Ed Buensuceso (joker) and Nestor Farinas (joker) were made to sweat to outclass Donald Briones and James Briones (joker) in 3 extended sets 17-21, 22-20, 21-14 and Francis Enriquez and Joker crushed Richard Amoto and Joker 21-13, 21-12.

One of the most attended classes — Men’s B — witnessed Romeo Derequito and Joel Aguirre waste no effort to brush aside Jonathan Munalem and Sid Ladia 21-16, 21-12, while Roger Jimenez and Leandro de Jesus overcame Lawrence Viernes and Kannan in back to back sets 21-18, 21-18, Jonathan Munalem and Rey Lubaton fought for every point to edge Jess Sibunga Jr and John Rubin 21-14, 21-23, 23-21, Ross Uson and Joel Aguirre outlasted Romeo Derequito and Sid Ladia 17-21, 21-9, 21-12 and FILBACK Founding Chairman Caloy Abesamis and Kannan appeared to be in a hurry as they overwhelmed Ambali and Joker 21-16, 21-17.
On the other hand, Rey “Smokey” Orje and Leandro de Jesus brushed aside Arnold Abordo and John Rubin 21-13, 21-19, Rasheed and Renato Calanog thumped Ross Uson and Sid Ladia 21-14, 21-11, Rasheed and Joker overpowered Lawrence Viernes 21-15, 21-12, Ross Uson and Rafiq tamed Ambali and Joker 21-19, 21-14, Norman Calina and Joker were involved in a hard fight before they edged Lawrence Viernes and Kannan 17-21, 21-17, 24-22 in one of the mouthwatering matches that day, Joker and Joker hammered Lawrence and Joker 21-15, 21-13 and another Joker pair beat Robert Gubat and Joker 21-16, 13-21, 21-17.

In Ladies B event, the girl power of Lyn Roca and Paz Carlos hammered Biberly Malvar and Ruby Rose Miranda in back to back sets 21-17, 21-17, Peachy Quinones and Ruby Rose Miranda outclassed Lourdes Orbase and Abelyn Sayoto in a seesaw battle 21-19, 17-21, 21-15, Cherrylou Nicolas and Abelyn Sayoto brushed aside Amor Llanes and Lyn Pascua 21-16, 21-16, Mayeen Abesamis and Lourdes Orbase edged Grace Daulo and Joker 21-10, 14-21, 21-18 and Mercy Joy Villanueva and Abelyn Sayoto overcame Amor Llanes and Grace Daulo 21-15, 21-18.
On the other hand, Mayeen “FILBACK Mommy” Abesamis and Joker pulled off a landslide victory in four matches but she was made to sweat for every point to edge Amor Llanes and Joker three times with the matches going twice to 3 extended sets 21-9, 12-21, 23-21 and 21-9, 12-21, 21-19 and 24-22, 21-14, while she also faced a tough match while beating a pair of Jokers 21-12, 17-21, 21-19.

Meanwhile, Maricris Malilay and Aileen Buenaventura overwhelmed Cherryl Manaytay and Jazella Ilejay 21-17, 21-17, Fe Isabel Adarne and Jannet Gravador blended well on the courts to edge Vhenie Ilejay and Chato Guillermo 14-21, 21-13, 21-15, Marie Grace Calungsod and Jazella Ilejay overpowered Jannet Gravador and Joker 21-19, 21-9 and Chato Guillermo and Joker brushed aside Fe Isabel Adarne and Joker 21-19, 21-14.
