National Assembly panel refuses to lift the immunity of three MPs Interior Minister criticised over ‘Al-Habib escape’

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 1: The Parliamentary Legislative and Legal Committee refused to lift the immunity of MPs Faisal Al-Muslim, Daifullah Buramiya and Khalid Al-Sultan, while passing a draft bill to amend the Civil Procedure Law, reports Al-Shahid daily.
Chairperson of the committee MP Hussein Huraiti said the committee is against lifting the immunity of Al-Muslim in the case concerning investigators, besides Daifullah Buramiya and Al-Sultan’s press related cases. He also noted the committee had passed the amendment to the commercial and civil procedure law.
In an unrelated development, MPs Hussein Al-Huraiti and Ali Al-Rashid protested against the lunch hosted by MP Musallam Al-Barrak inside the parliament house, saying Al-Barrak should have organized the lunch at his home, and not in a public building.

In other parliamentary developments, MP Mohammed Haif questioned the Minister of Interior Sheikh Jaber Al-Khalid over Yaser Al-Habib escaping from the country, after he had been convicted of a 10-year jail term by the Criminal Court, according to ruling number 1/2004, when he abused the Islamic Caliphates Abu Baker Al-Sadeeq and Omar Bin Qattab. The MPs were surprised the suspect was freed under a pardon issued at the time. He added an administrative blunder had later been uncovered in that regard, after his release.
MP Haif revealed Al-Habib had a hand in an attempted coup in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and he allegedly urged the destruction of Sunni Mosques in his fatwas, including holy sites in Makkah and Medina, amid several demands for self-governance in support of Shiites in Bahrain, along with Shiites from Basra, Iraq and Amman.
