‘EPA entrusted with devising policy for protection of environ’ ‘Concerted efforts, cooperation needed among GCC environmental bodies’

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 25, (KUNA): Kuwait pays great attention to the conservation of local and regional environment and its concomitant development under the directives of His Highness, the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, director general of the Environment Public Authority, Dr Salah Al-Mudhi said here Monday.
Mudhi said at the opening of the 25th meeting of the environmental coordination committee of the general secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) that he entrusted the environment authority with devising and carrying out the general policy for protecting environment, besides the strategies and the action plan for achieving the sustainable development.


The environment authority is also assigned with monitoring the activities, measures and practices concerned with protecting environment, participating in guiding and supporting the environmental studies and putting the general framework of the environmental educational program in order to make citizens well-acquainted with the environment conservation, he said.
Mudhi pointed out that responsibility, “Requires from us to make concerted efforts and promote cooperation among the environmental bodies in the GCC states in order to reach a full coordination and achieve the requirements of the sustainable development.” He concluded with saying that the GCC leaders set up policies and principles for protecting environment during their 6th summit in Muscat that represented a take-off for the environmental work and it was translated by the environmental officials at the GCC states into plans and programs of action.
