Arab expat gets 10 year : The Criminal Court sentenced an Arab man, identified only as Mohamed S., to 10 years in jail in absentia to be followed by deportation for kidnapping and raping an Indonesian housemaid.
Speaking to the Arab Times after the issuance of the verdict, the lawyer for the victim, Attorney Mohamed Khuraibet, expressed satisfaction over the ruling, pointing out the suspect disregarded his client’s tearful plea for him to leave her.
During a previous session, Khuraibet told the court the suspect had been cruel to the victim and caused her enormous pain. He added the suspect had repeated his crime twice, forgetting God’s ability to discover the atrocious act.
Case files indicate on Dec 25, 2008, the victim left her sponsor’s flat to call her family in Indonesia at an Internet café. Seeing the woman at the building where he lived, the suspect held her by force and took her to his flat on the fourth floor where he raped her and then let her go.
On Feb 4, 2009, the victim was on her way to the Internet café again when the suspect saw her. He again raped her. When he finished, she took advantage of the situation as he was busy and picked up his mobile phone to dial her number and then she left the suspect’s phone.
The victim then reported the incident to her embassy. A case was filed against the suspect, who suddenly disappeared, so he was tried and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in absentia.
The session was presided over by Judge Adel Al-Saqer.
