Tip-off helps foil bid to smuggle in 1,900 bottles of foreign liquor Man tries to kill friend with car
KUWAIT CITY, Jan 15: A team from the Anti-Drug Department managed to foil an attempt to smuggle 1,900 bottles of imported alcohol into Kuwait from a GCC country.
Director-General of the Department Brigadier Ahmad Al-Khalifa received information about a container filled with liquor that was on its way to Kuwait through Shuwaikh Port. Immediate steps were taken to seize the container and apprehend the persons responsible for bringing it into the country. An Egyptian driver and a Syrian expatriate were arrested after intensive investigations revealed that they were the transporters of the alcohol.
According to a source, the container was shipped to Kuwait by a company that specializes in the import and export of goods. Investigations are underway to identify and arrest the chief smugglers of the liquor.
4 held for alcohol use: Four citizens in their 30s were arrested by Hawally security operatives for consuming alcohol Thursday night.
The officers were on routine duty when they notice a car with loud music and roving the area. This prompted the officers to stop the motorist for questioning. It was after they spoke to the driver and the three others they discovered the four were intoxicated. Then, security officers searched the car and found two bottles of imported liquor. They were referred to the concerned authority.

Armed men rob passersby: Police are looking for four armed unidentified men driving a stolen white Jeep for waylaying passersby and robbing them. In some cases the suspects have allegedly stabbed their victims who refused to part with their belongings such as cell phones and money, reports Al-Shahed daily.
This came to light when an unidentified Indian filed a complaint with the Dasma Police Station saying he was robbed by four who said they were police.
The victim said the men took him to an open ground in Bneid Al-Gar, beat him and robbed his KD 110 and cell phone.
According to another complainant who works in the Shuwaikh Industrial Area, he was kidnapped by four men riding a Jeep, taken to an isolated spot and robbed of his belongings including money - KD 500. A security source said this is the 10th such case that has been registered against this gang.
‘Rusty RPG caused explosion: The Court of First Instance Thursday listened to the testimony of the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Dr Mohammed Al-Afasi in his capacity as former Chairman of the Military Judicial Authority in the case of an explosion which killed and injured Kuwaiti soldiers during military training at the Al-Udair shooting range, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
The incident occurred in 2004 when soldiers were training on old ammunitions left behind by the retreating Iraqi soldiers after their defeat in Kuwait’s liberation war.
During the training a rocket-propelled grenade exploded killing and injuring many soldiers. A report submitted by the Criminal Evidences Department show the RPG missiles were rusty and was the cause of the explosion.
Man tries to kill friend with car: Police are looking for a 30-year-old Kuwaiti man who tried in vain to run over a Kuwaiti man with his vehicle on Thursday, reports Al-Anba daily.
The victim who is seriously injured has been admitted to the intensive care unit of the Farwaniya Hospital.
According to reports both men are friends and their friendship soured following a verbal argument between the two.
From his hospital bed the victim has given police the name of the suspect who is absconding.
Arab man stabs citizen: A Kuwaiti who was stabbed with a knife by an unidentified Arab man from a Gulf country in Jahra has been admitted to the intensive care unit of the Jahra Hospital, reports Arrouiah daily.
According to a security sources the man was stabbed during a fight between the men in Taima, a suburb of Jahra.
When police reached the spot the fighters had been separated and the suspect was caught by passersby. The victim was lying on the ground in a pool of blood.
The suspect has been detained at the Jahra Police Station for interrogation.
Stunts men disturb schoolgirls: The Night Duty Patrol affiliated to the Jahra Security Directorate have arrested many youths for making stunts with their cars and showing their skills in front of girls high schools, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
This happened when the girls were answering their examination.
Wanted man arrested: The Hawalli police have arrested a Kuwaiti man who had been sentenced in absentia for three months imprisonment for driving under the influence of alcohol, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily. He has been referred to area police station for legal action.
Expat held for breach of trust: The Hawalli police have arrested an Egyptian man in connection with breach of trust and driving a stolen car, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
According to the daily the man had been sentenced in absentia for one year imprisonment for breach of trust.
Drunk Bangladeshis held: Police have arrested six Bangladesh for drinking alcohol. They were also caught gambling on an open ground in Salmiya, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
They have been referred to the authorities.
MPW employee assaulted: A Kuwaiti man working for the Ministry of Public Works has filed a case with the Sharq Police Station accusing 10 employees of the Kuwait Ports Company of assaulting him and damaging his boat, reports Al-Shahed daily.
In his complaint the man said this happened when he was sailing in his boat in the area. The workers ordered him to come to the shore, damaged his boat and beat him.
He has submitted a medical report to substantiate his claim.
