New labour law
I am working as a nurse in a dental clinic for the last 2 months and my residence is article 22 (family visa). The management now wants to change my residence from article 22 to 18 and put me on the dental clinic sponsorship.
They are asking me to sign a contract which is in Arabic. Recently I read in the newspapers that some good amendments are in there in the new labor law.
My question is that if I sign the contract paper will the new labor law be applicable to me or not.
Name withheld
Answer: So far there have been contradictory reports on whether the new labor law will be implemented retroactively or it will apply only to the new contracts after it is published in the Kuwait Gazette.
So at this moment, until the situation is clear, we can’t say whether this law will be applicable to you or not. And lastly, whenever you have any paper in Arabic to sign, have it translated to English because once you have signed it, you can’t say later that you didn’t know its contents because it was in Arabic.
