Pakistani carrier to die for drugs, Syrian for ‘decapitating’ Egyptian Kidnap attempt foiled

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 4: The Criminal Court Monday sentenced an unidentified Pakistani man to capital punishment for smuggling heroin into the country.
Case papers indicate the arresting officer acting on a tip-off detained the man for interrogation upon arrival at the Kuwait International Airport. When the man was asked if he was carrying drugs, he replied in the negative and after the officer found no drugs on his person or his baggage, he was referred to the Farwaniya Hospital for an X-ray. The X-ray showed 81 capsules in the man’s stomach which later turned out to be filled with heroin.
During interrogation the man admitted he was only a carrier and that he brought the drugs to an unidentified person but the person denied knowledge about the drugs.
The session was presided over by Judge Hamoud Al-Mutawa.
In another case, the Criminal Court sentenced a Syrian man, identified only as H. Al-Khalaf, to capital punishment for the premeditated murder of an Egyptian man in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh on Sept 28, 2008. He decapitated the victim after killing him.
Case papers show after committing the murder, Khalaf left the country on the same day and was arrested in Jordan while on his way home via Amman. When he was extradited to Kuwait, he admitted to the charge. When he was summoned by the Public Prosecution for the second time, he retracted his confession, denied the charge and said he had confessed to committing the crime under duress. The session was presided over by Judge Hamoud Al-Mutawa.

Kidnap attempt foiled: An American woman and her Kuwaiti husband have filed a complaint with the Rabiya Police Station accusing unidentified persons of attempting to kidnap their two sons — 11 and 13 years old — while they were playing in the vicinity of their home, reports Al-Shahed daily.
In her complaint the mother saw she saw a person attempting to bundle the boys into the car and when she screamed for help, he escaped. The mother has provided police the plate number of the culprit’s vehicle. How-ever, police investigations show the vehicle is registered in the name of a company.
