Movenpick come out on top TNT organizes charity tourney
KUWAIT CITY: TNT Express continued their campaign to ‘Fight Hunger’ in Kuwait last week with a charity football tournament organized in collaboration with the UN World Food Program, (WFP). The ‘Shoot-out’ family fun day, held at the Hassan Abul Stadium in Dasma, aimed to highlight the prevalence of child famine and raise funds for TNT’s WFP School Feeding Program. Executive sponsors for the event included Hassan Abul Stadium, Royal Technic, ABC (Arabian Beverage Company), Red Bull, Global Intl Trading, and Kuwait Technical Company.
Held under the “Let’s Play for Them” banner, the day kicked-off with the release of WFP balloons and pigeons, and with a minute of silence observed as a symbol of the participants’ commitment to spreading awareness and offering support to the eradication of child hunger.
In addition to activities and entertainment for children, there were 32 football shoot-out games over all in three leagues, with four teams making the semi finals; Bahrain Exchange, TNT Express, Gulf Glass and Movenpick Hotel. The day’s favorite Movenpick came out on top, winning the finals and the “Play for them” trophy, while Bahrain Exchange bagged the second spot. In the children’s event Gulf Agency Company beat Global Direct by 2 - 0 in the finals.
Speaking after the event Mohannad Khayyat, Country Manager of TNT Express Kuwait said, “This was a great opportunity for TNT and other local companies to play their part in raising funds for such an important cause. For parents and children alike, it was an enjoyable occasion, yet one that prompted the privileged to consider the poor and underprivileged children around the world, supporting WFP in their mission to fight hunger worldwide.”
Over 250 people attend the day with a great turnout from eighteen like minded companies in Kuwait; Al Riyash Lighting, Weatherford, Carrier Kuwait, Jassim Transport, UGETCO, KMACO, Victor Global, Expeditors, Gulf Agency, Starlink United, Movenpick Hotel, TQ Logistics, Bahrain Exchange, FC Fivestar, Al Badar Shipping, Global Direct & Gulf Glass.
“In light of the resounding success,” said Khayyat, “the shoot-out tournament will definitely become an annual feature in the TNT calendar and we hope to see even greater impact in 2010 as we continue to fight world hunger.”
