A warning to law breakers
THE lawbreakers do not have any alternative other than to retrace their steps and play the right politics in order to avoid cauterization as the only available medication. The address of HH the Amir is clear to all except those who intend to continue their wayward acts while awaiting the wrath of the law to catch up with them. When that happens, it will be useless to regret their short-sighted and selfish actions.
When the Amir places everything in the right perspective, there is no chance for misconception. When he warns that democracy has its limits and indicates the need to preserve it within that context with logic and wisdom, all crisis-provoking pens should understand that the time is up and refrain from such acts in future. All well-meaning individuals should discourage unscrupulous elements from trying to underestimate achievements.
The address of the Amir was not only a final warning to law breakers under the pretext of constitutional and legal rights. It was also an indication that the lawbreakers do not have the right to call for application of the constitution and then openly violate it. Those who derive pleasure in violating the legal and natural rights of citizens should understand that they do not have such a right. The constitution is a social contract that forms the basis for a state, while the laws are tools through which every person realizes his rights. Everybody can easily understand the message of the Amir through a Quranic verse. The verse indicates that God Almighty created every human being in groups and tribes for interaction, and the best among them are those who are the most pious. He affirmed that democracy is the only alternative for Kuwaitis, so they should use it in the right way.
His concern was based on the need to maintain national unity that forms the basis for stability, which in turn becomes the pillar of security — the ultimate goal.
While the Amir places the national responsibilities on the executive and legislative authorities through actions and cooperation, he also calls on those who are supposed to be representing citizens to beware of anything that could lead to crises during symposia and be more active in parliamentary activities. He urged the media to be more professional in their calling, since patriotism and partnership is expected of all media personalities. He advised the journalists to maintain the freedom of expression within the realm of media culture.
This is likely to be the last warning before resorting to decisive actions against unruly activities by those who feel that they are bigger than the Kuwaiti law, constitution, traditions and culture, which have been our guiding principles for ages. His Highness was clear about his intention to sail the ship to the Promised Land, while affirming that the constitutional principles should be stable in the National Assembly. Therefore, those who are suffering from the fever of exhibition should lower their temperature.
The address of the Amir is the beginning of a new dawn and could be a huge turning point for Kuwait if everybody deals with it properly. It will change the present situation of the country. Everybody who is supposed to serve as a role model should imbibe this expectation. They should steer clear of selfish ideas that only succeeds in destruction. They should prioritize Kuwait’s interests. The Amir made this speech after being a patient observer for a long time, and urged everybody to shed their illusions if they want to avoid unfavorable consequences.
