Amateurs stun Frost Real Estate for 2-in-a-row

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 16: Into the closing weeks of the 2009 ACDC Summer Tenpin Bowling Tournament – being held at the Kuwait Sea Sport Club lanes – the league’s neophyte squad of the Amateurs are set to close out their elimination round campaign in style as they chalked up their second win a row in stunning 8th week win over Frost Real Estate. Completion of the scheduled week 8 matches also saw West End Watches Company ceased playing second fiddle by taking over the leader board supremacy from erstwhile yellow shirt holder NTCC Bowleros. Among the teams in the win column, Delta Corporation’s successful stint this week was the most noteworthy as the timely victory lifted them back into the Top 6.

The supposedly easy outing for Frost Real Estate turned into a rough sailing as the unpredictable Amateurs forced the real estate managers to succumb to a 27-9 defeat. Considered as the whipping boys of the league, the Amateurs sent a strong signal that they disagree with the notion as they gave Frost a 8-3 and 6-5 beating in the first two games of the match. With their beleaguered opponents in disarray, Joel Sequeira, Anastasius Menezes, Bala, Samantha Fernandes and Monali Jeremiah put the finishing touches to their remarkable feat through a one-sided 10-1 win in game three. Playing for Frost Real Estate in this losing stint were Jess Cunanan, Chris Autida, Bong Autida, Michelle Avila and Fe Ferer.

For West End Watches Company, the search for a way to snatch the league leadership finally came to an end after the time masters turned back TISOK 27-14 to go up one point over deposed pace-setters NTCC Bowleros.
In game one, West End’s prospect of overtaking NTCC looked doomed after George Boushebel, Sarto Baptista, Mohammed Fateh, Pedro Fernandes and Connie Madi handed TISOK a 7-5 victory. Turning back the hands of time, West End regained their winning form in the next game and took the upper hand 13-11 through an 8-4 win.
With the number one position in sight, Uly Menezes, Colin Costa, Adrian Noronha, Fatima Sequeira and Brian Fernandes coasted home to a convincing 11-3 victory in game three. Meanwhile, ousted pace-setters NTCC Bowleros remained in a good position to retake the lead from West End Watches after clobbering the lane masters of United 21-12. In this match, NTCC moved in front by opening up with a 6-3 win but the quintet of Talal Jalal, Gody Caluag, Gil Anselmo, Greg Garrett and Jheng Liwayway who dished out a 8-3 decision in game two promptly grabbed the upper hand for United 11-9. Aware that another setback would jeopardize their chances of regaining the top post, Ed Mendoza, Jhun Castracion, Caloy Garay, Freddie Santos and Aiza Ysmail regrouped in game three where they defeated United 9-1.

Bolstered
Joining the other week 8 winners were Delta Corporation who bolstered their bid to get back into the magic 6 after overcoming Nusantara in game one and two. Relying on Ramon Mesina, Agnes Noble, Rico Galang, Eddie Pena, Armando Guiterrez, and Rod Dulay, Delta somehow put the outcome of the match beyond doubt as they walloped Nusanatara 8-3 and 11-2. Not deterred by the setback, the Nusantara five – Gofar Husin, Nunun Mulyana, Imam, Jati and Naning – fought back to take a 7-5 winning edge in game three. In the other two matches of the week, Abannte preserved their place in the Top 6 when they eked out a 19-18 squeaker over Pasaway, After three closely-contested games, Pasaway with Chris Bulacja, JR Angeles, Egay Cabildo, Shahab Khamali, Orlando Umbrete and Myra Manalo were up on win points 18-16 but with their 2595-2583 edge in total pin falls, Abannte added 3 more points to bring their final tally to 19. Bowling for Abannte in this match were Toto Abear, Mousa Abdullah, Gary Bonifacio, Noel Bihar, Vicky Navarro and Bert Pantanilla. In the only other match, a tenacious second game performance lifted the buzzing Honey Bees to a 23-14  win over D’Strikers. Pouring the winning points for the Bees in their 12-4 stinging victory in game two were Bima, Nitikusumo, Laras Pratiwi, Widya Wisantoro, Abel Nitikusumo and Tony Bustria who reset the High Game record with his 264 score.
