We lack the necessary infrastructure to promote the tourism sector

THE new framework of Kuwait International Airport shows it can accommodate 20 million visitors.  The government had earlier announced this vision, so Kuwaitis should be happy as the new visitors will definitely launch the long suspended wheels of development in the country.

However, we have yet to address a simple problem that prevents a large number of foreigners from entering the country.  We have to eliminate the bureaucratic procedures in the issuance of visit or work visas.  We should lift restrictions imposed on certain groups and age categories.  For example, foreign women above 40 years cannot even visit their relatives in Kuwait.

We have also banned the issuance of work permits to those above 60 years.  Maybe they should become young again to enter the country. Furthermore, we lack the necessary infrastructure to promote the tourism sector.  We do not need this airport because it will be empty even if Kuwait is a paradise due to the existing restrictions and procedures.  Forgive us!

I like.Roland | 1/21/2010 11:21:13 AM This is a major problem here in Kuwait. As a foreigner, I find this completely out of any logic. As I commented on a subject regarding work for expatriates, you cannot control the amount of foreigners and wanting to enhance tourism. This is more a VERY nationalist approach. Kuwait should take example of it's neighbour (cousin) Bahrain. I'm really admiring this country. They're doing everything possible in their power to open up the country and attract tourists. There are a lot of ways to do so...and we ALL know what they are. Unfortunately here in Kuwait, they have another type of vision about tourism...I think their mind is a bit messed up. Kuwait should: - issue visas like any other countries for certain countries and free for European ones, Canadian and American. - develop more tourism projects (there isn't much to visit). - abolish the sponsor law to attract foreign investors. - allow expats to buy properties (appartments). - most difficult point but very valuable, legalize alcohol as it was before the gulf war as a first step, found in hotels. Once this is done, Kuwait will be open for tourism and attract people...only then, it'll be a paradise. Good luck.
